Position Description:

This position requires an individual who is able to collect business and technical requirements from multiple sources, and then critically evaluate information gathered, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying business and technical needs.

The EA/EHR Architect will mostly focus on providing architectural services to clients, but may from time to time be asked to contribute to various corporate initiatives.

 

Job Requirements:  

  • Responsible for eliciting and documenting architectural requirements for various architectural disciplines (e.g. enterprise, business, privacy, security, application, infrastructure, information, etc.) using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and task and workflow analysis.
  • Manage and mentor staff to help them build their architecture and client management skills, by evaluating performance against core competencies and helping them establish professional development plans.  This may include on the spot coaching and feedback.
  • Travel to client sites within Canada and various countries around the world in regions such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, etc. for various periods of time, some of which may require relocating to the client’s local site.
  • Interact professionally with diverse groups of executives, managers, clinicians, and subject matter experts.
  • Analyze and compare EHR/eHealth related architecture design artifacts
  • Evaluate the implementation of architecture artefacts by examining components of the system related to one or more architecture disciplines (e.g. examines user workflow issues, system performance metrics, security controls, etc.) and forms recommendations on how to improve the architecture and system implementation to business and technical audiences.
  • Proficient at using software tools (e.g. EA Sparx, MS Visio, etc.) to compare architecture artefacts from all abstraction levels.
  • Able to identify which gaps are significant issues for a particular implementation. Able to explain the impact of misalignment to technical and business teams in terms of impact to technical and business goals. Able to recommend options for closing gaps and methods for evaluating the options.
  • Design EHR/eHealth related architecture design artifacts
  • Author documentation for various architecture disciplines (business, information, application, infrastructure, privacy and security, etc.) applying proper version control and best practices (UML, BPMN, Zachman, TOGAF, etc.) applying architecture patterns to meet requirements and simplify aspects of the architecture.
  • Sets up the tooling environment and methodology for producing architecture artefacts.
  • Contribute to procurement responses through development of delivery approaches, estimation of work effort and duration, deliverable and service descriptions, etc.
  • Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in computer sciences or equivalent experience and other undergraduate degree.
  • Undergraduate or Post-secondary education in Health Informatics, Information Management strongly desired.
  • 5 years of healthcare domain experience working with National or Provincial/State wide EHR Programs or Health Information Exchange initiatives.
  • 10 or more years of architecture experience with 3 of those being in the health or social services industry.
  • Managed a team of architects with responsibility for the architecture of large scale (e.g. national, provincial/state) health information exchange solutions.
  • Trained, or ideally certified, in one or more architectural frameworks (e.g. TOGAF 9.1)
  • Prince 2 or PMP Certified
  • Ability to travel globally for long periods of time
  • Experience helping large organizations (e.g. Budgets > $450 M) build new areas of business and capabilities, and help clients wind down business areas or transfer them to other organizations.
  • Authored architecture documentation for at least 2 different systems applying proper version control and best practices.
  • Mentored others how to apply architecture principles and best practices in creating architecture documentation for at least 4 architecture disciplines.
  • Played the role of enterprise architect and oversaw the development of the Enterprise Architecture documentation for at least one medium size (e.g. 100 to 499 employees) organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to effectively deal with remote teams and clients.
  • Ability to lead project work streams.
  • Previous consulting experience highly valued.
