Background

Gevity Consulting has several clients who wish to integrate their Hospital Information System (HIS) to accelerate the adoption of electronic health records. These clients will be updating their HIS to the latest version of MEDITECH, Cerner or EPIC. Updating their HIS will create an electronic foundation that will enable Gevity’s clients to more rapidly move to a fully electronic health record, complete paperless records and allow for a highly-integrated health information technology system throughout all departments, connected seamlessly, working efficiently and connecting to a regional electronic health record. This technology will improve patient care and safety, as well as enhance patients’ experience under care, allowing clinicians to access more information about their patients when they need it from almost anywhere.

 

Job description

Gevity seeks an experienced HIS Project Manager for full-time employment as a consultant within the Gevity team. We are open to applicants based anywhere in Eastern Canada (Ontario, Quebec or the Maritimes) as well as the East Coast of the United States. Applications from candidates seeking full-time employment or occasional freelance work will be considered.

As an HIS Project Manager, you will oversee the planning, implementation and tracking of specific HIS upgrades or implementations for Gevity clients. You will take a leadership role in all aspects of project management including planning and implementing the project; applying project controls to ensure appropriate reporting and communications with project stakeholders and managing the budget and preparation of financial reports.

More specifically, as an HIS Project Manager, you will:

  • Execute project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements based on client feedback;
  • Identify resources needed and assigns individual responsibilities;
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope;
  • Review project deliverables prepared by team;
  • Effectively apply project management methodology and enforce project standards;
  • Provide regular project status updates;
  • Identify and manage project risk and issues;
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

 

Required Knowledge & Skills

To qualify for a position within Gevity as an HIS Project Manager, you must possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Broad industry experience in health IT, including a minimum of 5 years with implementing hospital information systems;
  • Experience leading projects implementing either Cerner, Epic or MEDITECH 6.x modules;
  • Ability to assess situations to determine importance, urgency and risk and make clear decisions that are in the best interest of the project and the organization;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • Experience working with stakeholders at all organizational levels;
  • Ability to foster effective teamwork to set goals and resolve problems and ensure project is delivered to the client’s satisfaction.

 

Assets:

The following will be considered strong assets for this role:

  • PMP Certification;
  • Certified on any of the following vendors’ solutions: EPIC, Cerner, Meditech;
  • Any other industry recognized certifications, specifically in Business Analysis (CBAP), Change Management (PROSCI) or Project Management (PRINCE2);
  • Experience implementing Laboratory Information Systems or Diagnostic Imaging Solutions;
  • A University diploma in a clinical or technical discipline relevant to the role;
  • An ability to travel for work;
  • Proficiency in French, written and spoken.
